What’s Your Best Memory With Your Kids?
As a mother, there were many ‘bests’ with my three girls. I wrote down some of my favorites on little pieces of paper. Then I put them in a box and pulled one out to write about.
Those years were the happiest days of my life. They were the one part of my life, the one job, I’m most proud of and the one I took most seriously.
Now with eleven grandchildren, I can also see the results of that part of my life being played out through them. My daughters have been busy making their own ‘bests’ with their children and it’s a beautiful thing to watch.
One of my favorites was the first time they made me breakfast in bed when they were about four, six, and eight. It was made all the more special because I could see and feel the love (and not just a little pride) in their faces when they brought their surprise to me in bed and stayed to watch my every move and reaction.
I also remember having to rely on my every ounce of acting skills and an extra helping of motherly love as I sipped my day old coffee and ate runny eggs and soggy toast with a loving smile.
How could I ever forget those three pairs of hopeful eyes looking on, watching every sip and bite? It’s simple, you don’t. It’s one of motherhood’s hallowed joys. You never forget how those you love make you feel and you tell them at every opportunity.
That was the first of several breakfasts in bed, and they only got better with time, as my girls got older. But this is the memory I think of most often every time I hear, “Happy Birthday, Mom”, or “Happy Mother’s Day, Mom.”
I love you girls. Thank you for the memories you’ve given me.
