At night when I was a little girl, I thought I could see fairies dancing barefoot in the grass under the bushes across the street in our neighbor’s yard.
Now that I’m a grownup, I know it was only my imagination. But if there really had been fairies, I know they would have looked just like Máiréad Nesbitt, the tiny barefoot fiddler that danced onstage in Celtic Woman concerts to the delight of concert goers of all ages.
The tiny blond gal with her fiddle really was just like a real life fairy. She was well-worth the price of a ticket all by herself.
With a perpetual smile, she fiddled and danced barefoot, tossing her long blond hair and charming everyone, young or old, who was in the audience.
Turn up your volume and watch Máiréad dance and play her fiddle ...
On my dad's 84th birthday, Robert and I took him to a Celtic Woman concert in Columbus, Ohio. It was the perfect gift for him —he loved it. All three of us sat there completely spellbound.
If you ever get the chance, go see them. They’re marvelous and I guarantee, you won't be disappointed. The 2-1/2 hours went way too fast. The Celtic Woman concert received two curtain calls and a standing ovation.
“For more than a decade, Grammy and Emmy nominated artist and composer, Máiréad Nesbitt, enchanted millions of fans around the world as the dancing Celtic violinist and founding member of the globetrotting music phenomenon, Celtic Woman.
Loyal fans of all ages, across geographical and cultural boundaries far beyond the musical heritage of Ireland, have adored her beguiling stage presence and versatile instrumental talents.
As the featured violin soloist on all 11 Celtic Woman albums, each title achieved the coveted #1 slot on the Billboard World Music Chart.”
At Christmas this year, I found a Celtic Woman concert on a PBS TV station and watched it. A different fiddler accompanied the singers. She was very good, but she didn’t fiddle and dance barefoot like Mairead Nesbitt.
Mairead truly was one-of-a-kind and I’m sure the whole world joins me in missing her.
Note: I did a quick search and found that Celtic Woman is touring the U.S. right now. If you’re interested, do a search and see when they might be in a town near you.
Tonight, March 22, they will be in Concord, New Hampshire. That’s not too far from where I used to live.
Have a great weekend …

Thank you for sharing CJ and wow. For my mum's 80th my daughter and I took her to see Riverdance. Perhaps St Patrick is sayings hi to us ? And don't be so sure that they weren't fairies, I never believed in angels until I saw one.
