I remember the day when I got books in the mail from my publisher for my first Author school visit a few days away. These were pre-orders through teachers for families of the students I would speak to at the elementary school.
When I was brand new with only one published book, that system worked well for me. Then all I had to do was autograph them at the end of the school visit day and collect the prepaid money for the books.
My daughter, Beth, and three grandsons happened to be at our house when the mailman knocked on my door with two boxes of books. Also included were several extra books for my daughters and members of my family.
When I gave Beth her copy, she thanked me and immediately asked the older boys, Kevin 5 and Liam 7, “Would you like me to read Grammy’s book?” Kevin and Liam said they would.
Little Colin, then 3, heard and he came running. “Me, Too, Mommy! Me, Too!”
So that’s where my third book of poetry got its name:
“Me Too! Preschool Poetry”
Like the first two books, this poetry is also written from a child’s point of view. Below are a few poems from “Me Too! Preschool Poetry”.
Ten Little Piggies Ten little piggies all standing in line. Dad and Mommy told me the piggies ALL are MINE. One by one we point to them --every piggie has a name, and then a place he goes to. I really LOVE this game! When Mommy sings the "Piggies Song", I can see ten piggies wiggle, and when my mommy kisses them, it makes me smile and giggle. When the game is over, we put them in warm socks. Hmmm … just how many piggies does a Mom or Daddy gots? * Belly Bubbles Grampa says a burp is just a belly bubble. Maybe so, I only know, if it's LOUD, you get in trouble. * The EEE ARR Oooo, today I got some stitches. But that's not exactly true. Glue IS sorta like it though. It sticks skin together, too. Mom took me to the EEE ARR 'cause my blood was everywhere. It was on my shirt and pants and it's still right here and there. My blood was almost gone! Well, that's not exactly true. But still, it really scared me and it woulda scared you, too. (shaking head) Daddy always told me, "Don't pet dogs that you don't know. Some aren't like our Frankie. You don't know them? Let them go!" This dog was really nice. Well that's not exactly true. He acted like he liked me, but he growled some at me, too. I think I shoulda let him go, just like Daddy said to do. Then I never woulda hadda go to the EEE ARR to get glued. * Caterpillar Fuzzy caterpillar with your million-jillion feet, how do you know which foot should go when you're walking on that leaf? You make it look so easy, right-left-right, the way you do. Sometimes, MY feet get tangled up and I have only TWO ... * Bedtime Prayer Now I lay me down in bed. All my prayers and night-nights said. Snuggle bunny, teddy bear, toasty blankie, all are here. Out with the light so dreams will come. Thank you, God. Now, where's my thumb? (Night-Night) * [Poems are from the book, “Me Too! Preschool Poetry”, by C.J. Heck, 2000] BYE BYE

I love your poems, C.J.! My children and grandchildren are grown, but I’ll be looking for your books when I’m blessed with a 𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩 grandchild! Do you also write for older children? These poems would have been perfect for my toddler children! 🐣🐥💞
CJ, Always love your writing. D
