Are you just starting out as a writer and wondering, “How can I know whether my writing is any good? Is it good enough to have anything published?”
There can be nothing worse than having a burning desire to write, working hard, pouring your heart and soul into writing something, and while it feels good to you, you wonder if it is. If it’s not, how can I improve? Am I just spinning my wheels on what I should keep as a nice little hobby?
That’s a question only you know the answer to. True creativity is a mixture of talent, compulsion, and desire. You have a burning desire to write —there are so many things down inside that are dying to come out. The ideas are uncomfortable where they are, stuck down inside.
You have a compulsion to be published —you want it so bad you can taste it! That brings me back to talent. Am I good enough?
I had always done a lot of writing, and I loved the idea of getting something published, but I didn't know anyone who’d ever been published. I had no one to ask if what I wrote was good enough for magazines, or someday a book. So I joined several writing groups, communities and forums online.
There's no better feeling than someone saying they appreciate what you write, and how you write it. What’s really great is having someone help you learn by suggesting any improvements that you could make.
Most have several categories where you can post your writing: poetry, fiction, short stories, essays, blogs and articles. The poetry category is further broken into genres: children's, erotica/sensual/adult, religious, spiritual, humorous, rhyming, prose poetry, etc.
You’ll find the real power behind a writing community is being part of something where everyone there is also writing and learning. You get valuable feedback on your work when you post it, as well as comments and critiques you give to others.
There are poetry and writing forums where you can showcase your work and yourself, and most communities allow personal profiles and detailed biographies.
Joining also creates name recognition (your ‘Brand’), for when you DO get something published, so be sure to use your real name. People from all over the world will begin to know who you are and what you write.
Another bonus, you will also make lasting friendships with others who have the same interest you do —-writing.
I’ll be happy to answer any questions. I wish you the very best.
