I loved this metaphor, C.J.:"They didn’t feel a need to fill the silence. That was a well-worn sweater they both shared and were comfortable wearing." I liked the sentiment in the ending. Their relationship with each other was everything.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it and I thank you for telling me. That’s important. It’s nice to get a heart/like, but when someone takes the time to tell you in a comment, it means so much more.
Oh, I love this, C.J.!! You nailed this in just the right spot! I have sisters, who are like friends, friends who are like sisters, and this one friend, where every cup of coffee, held a new discovery about each other. It has been 47 years, 5 children, and numerous grandchildren, and we still have coffee every morning, making new discoveries, and being grateful for the familiar way our friendship feels.
Straight black was what my mother loved. She could drink high test coffee until the second she went to bed with no problem with sleep. I can’t drink high test after about 1:00 midday or I will be up all night. I’m also allergic to artificial sweetners. Those will keep me up all night, too.
Absolutely enchanting.
Thank you, Dave. I love that you called “Best Friends” enchanting!
If a conversation makes me forget my coffee, that is life-changing stuff. Great post, CJ.
Thank you, Parker. I’m glad you enjoyed “Best Friends”.
Thank you for restacking ‘Best Friends’, @Kathleen Hobbs
You’re welcome CJ

The little chip on his mug being from that flat tire road trip made me go soft... in the most embarrassing way.
Hello Asuka-Hotaru. Thank you for commenting. I don’t know whether to apologize, or just blush …
Ah this is perfect timing. Can’t wait to share with my new son-in-law.
When asked, at their wedding shower, to describe his bride-to-be in one word, he said, “home.” All the women swooned. ♥️
This vignette could be about Miranda and Trevor.
Once again, beautiful writing!!
Hello Julie. Thank you for your kind words and your support.
Your son-in-law is in love! Your daughter is a lucky lady, Julie. I will hold them in my heart as I wish them peace and even more love.
Thank you again.
Let’s see…🤔🤔🤔 Dunkin, hot or iced…black
Okay, got it. You are a Dunkin’ fan and you love it black, hot or iced.
I am a Dunkin’ fan, too. Iced is Extra Extra. Hot is Extra Cream Only.
Thank you. I’m Home.
Actually I was thinking those were yours. I guess we’re not quite there yet 😜😜😝😝😂😂
Right now, I’m cream & Equal. But as long as it’s wet, I like it, I’ll drink it. Been in the mood for straight black a little bit lately.

Lovely. It really gets to the heart of true love.
"They were the steady flow of ink that made their friendship readable." MARVELLOUS. Thanks, C.J, for reminding us of where home really is.
You’re very kind, Christina. Thank you very much for your support.
