I don’t know about you, (obviously), but I love quotes. I have, or can usually find a quote that will help me with any difficult issue.
My love for quotes developed while I was growing up. Mom and Dad had a quote for almost every situation that arose in our house. My five siblings and I (and foster children, too) heard them so often, they’ve been committed to memory. That began my fascination for quotations.
I don’t know of a better way to be inspired. And once inspired, we can pay them forward to inspire others. My children and now my grandchildren do. As an added bonus, it helps keep the memory of my parents alive.
Some of the Dad and Mom-isms I heard while growing up…
“Love isn’t love, 'til it’s given away. It’s in giving that you learn it truly does come back ten-fold.”
“Kissing a boy (or girl) when they want to be kissed is like scratching a place that doesn’t itch.”
“Love you can trust is in a loved one’s eyes.”
“Beauty on the inside is more important than beauty on the outside.”
“It’s nice to be important, but more important to be nice.”
“There’s all kinds of ways to say ‘I love you’. Showing someone you love them is even better than saying the words.”
“Say what you mean; mean what you say; but don't say it mean.”
“When it’s real, love is feeling so loved and secure that even your name feels safe in their mouth.”
“Don’t take life so seriously. It doesn't matter how old you are, your inner child is still alive. Let 'em out. Mud is for mud pies, puddles are for splashing. Have fun and enjoy life.”
“We’re all products of our environment; everything that touches us will mold us into the person we were born to become.”
“Once burned, twice shy. Hurt me once, shame on you. Hurt me again, shame on me.”
“Be kind to everyone. ‘Your kind words can change a life; they might be the only kind words that person heard all day, all week, or all year.”
“Girls can do anything boys can do, except stand up to potty.”
“Hold onto your dreams. Make them happen and never say ‘I can’t’.”
“The world is your watermelon — grab it and take a bite!”
“A boy will be as good as the girl he’s with, so be true to yourself.”
“Share your smile! It may help someone find one of their own they only misplaced for awhile.”
If these inspired you, feel free to use them. Then be sure to pay them forward.
