Double Entendre: A Bawdy Literary Device
A personal challenge to write a poem using Double Entendre.
I remember reading an article a few years ago about ‘Double Entendre’ and how it could be used as a literary device to inject humor into our writing.
What especially intrigued me was, if it was used properly, it should add something of a sexually suggestive, or bawdy nature to the writing.
I love trying out ideas and concepts that are new to me. So, I challenged myself to write a poem using this form of double meaning sentences in the poem.
“A double entendre is a sentence or phrase where there are two possible interpretations: the first is straightforward and obvious, while a second is sexually suggestive or bawdy in nature, leaving the reader to work out the double meaning.” (Master Class)
I hope reading it is as much fun for you as it was for me when I wrote it!

I can't recall the last time, but it doesn't surprise me, considering how busy we've been lately ... I do know, I remember how intense we used to be ... We need to get away, just the two of us, before we make any ruts in this lovely road of ours. Let's go somewhere, now, before "Talking dirty" really means: "You doing a light load? Let's just go, before "Oh God, I'm coming!" actually means, "Don't nag me, I'm almost ready! Go start the car." Let's go today, while "Baby, that was fantastic!" Still means more than a Sunday Scrabble win. It's not too late. I still remember ... [from the book, "Anatomy of a Poet", by C.J. Heck, Amazon.com]
