Forever
Thoughts and a Poem
The words, “Nothing Lasts Forever” appeared in a post this morning. That was the um-teenth time I saw it just this month, but this time, a question occurred to me. What situation does the phrase actually allude to and what point are we trying to make by using it?
When I say it, I usually try and tack on a few quantifying words so it’s clear. For instance:
“Nothing ‘bad’ lasts forever.” Or …
“I’m sorry you broke your leg and I know it hurts. It will heal and the pain will go away. Nothing lasts forever.”
Where I have a problem with the phrase is when someone decides their relationship isn’t important and they do something stupid. “Hey nothing lasts forever anyway, so what?”
I don’t believe that’s true. I’ve heard of couples that were married for over 60 years and they protect their relationship.
Forever
Tell me again
you love me.
Hold me again
like you care.
Let me reach for you
in the darkness
and please, please,
find you there.
Let me want you
deep inside me
and know
you want that, too.
Let's make love all night
and in morning's light,
if we want,
we'll begin again.
Let me see your smile
to return with my own.
God, let's laugh out loud!
May my name be
the last word
you breathe at night --
in this life,
here and now.
Someday may never come,
and forever
won't be enough.
Some of your work produces welcome tears--relief. Someone else gets it!
Exciting poem. Full of emotions and raw feelings of truth.👍
