Happy is a Pair of Soft Worn Blue Jeans
and an Oversize Sweater with the 'Brand New' Washed Out
Robert and I planned to meet some friends at a free outdoor concert a few weeks ago. A local band was going to do a special tribute to Jimmy Buffett by playing all of his music.
Now, anyone who knows me, knows I’m a Parrothead and I’ve been one from way back. Robert is not so much a fan, but he’s a sweetheart. He likes to indulge me when he can, especially when he knows it’s something I would love.
Our plan was to golf cart to the concert site to meet the others. We were busy packing our bag chairs, a cooler, and an umbrella (just in case), when my cell phone rang.
“What are you wearing to the concert?”
“I don’t know. I guess white slacks with some kind of top and no shoes. Why? Is there a dress code for the concert?”
“No. I was just wondering. It is a concert, after all.”
“Hun, just wear what you want to wear. The concert is outdoors, we’ll be sitting on folding bag chairs in the grass. Let’s go have fun. See you in a little while.”
We ended the call.
I guess I must be an odd old duck, but I don’t understand the importance society or anyone else puts on what I wear. Covid changed things so much that it pushed style right out of my life. I’m sure it’s that way for a lot of people.
No, I haven’t become a slouch, but we don’t go anywhere indoors unless we have to —a doctor or dentist appointment. We also stay away from crowds these days, so I do dress more casually than I did before Covid.
One thing I used to love is shopping second-hand and slightly-worn clothing stores. I love the feel of soft worn blue jeans, and an oversized sweater with all of the ‘brand new’ washed out of it. Since Covid, there are a lot of things I don’t do anymore and I really miss having that freedom.
Robert and I are mostly homebodies now. We order groceries online and go pick them up. If we decide we don’t want to cook dinner, we order online, or by phone, and go pick it up curbside. Almost every restaurant has that as an option since the pandemic. As a result, we don’t even need dress up clothes anymore.
I wear what looks good, keeps me warm, or cool, and I don’t care if it goes with my face mask (yes, we still mask). If someone cares more about what I’m wearing than they do about me … I’d have to say, that’s their problem, not mine.
I think it’s because we do still mask that we’ve avoided getting Covid or any of the other communicable bugs going around.

How was the concert ? lol. Will try this again happy belated b day to you . love the story , hugs and peace to you and your family and all your readers .
I buy second hand now. I love ordering new to me outfits online knowing it’s not creating new consumables and it’s not as costly.
