Do you remember what it was like to be a child? Childhood was a whole world full of beliefs and magic and rules and it couldn’t be more different than the grownup world —and it sure wasn’t anything like we pretended it would be.
The childhood world was worry-free and the good days really did last forever. But our world also wrapped us in secret fears. The fear of monsters hiding under our bed and a fear of the dark, and the fear of the Boogieman under the sidewalk. All of them were very real.
I remember our childhood world was knowing ‘maybe’ and ‘we’ll see’ were only grownup words to make us wait. They were never ours, because we always answered, ‘yes’, or ‘no’ … or ‘ABSOLUTELY’ ... or sometimes we said, ‘just a minute’. We didn’t do stuff that was bad, ever. When we got in trouble for doing something wrong, it was because we didn’t know it was.
Besides, there were others we learned we could blame things on:
‘I Don’t Know’ and ‘Not Me’
