What Might be Compared with Writing a Novel?
Writing a novel would be a lot like being pregnant. You’re ecstatic. Your whole focus is on the end result and the joy you know you’ll feel --you mark your calendar with your due date –> your eventual publishing date.
A lot of thought, planning and hard work will go into getting the nursery ready → the novel plotted and written. It all has to come together in time for the birth of the baby → for finishing the novel.
You’ve always wanted this, but you had to wait for the timing to be right. You knew it wouldn’t happen overnight. You had to wait for your test to be “positive” to start growing your baby → for the storyline and characters to be chosen before you could start writing your novel.
With each month that passes, excitement builds. You already feel the love and a growing bond with the baby → with your novel and it only grows deeper each week and month. Having any patience becomes difficult, because anything worth having and looked forward to with so much love, you want right now. With that in mind, time continues to move forward.
Then suddenly, the long wait is over. It’s time.
With the very last contraction → with the very last line, everything you waited, worked and planned for fills you up with love and joy. You’re way beyond being thrilled.
Relatives say all the fingers and toes are there. Your baby is perfect –> your editor says your novel is flawless and it’s ready to be published.
One will get a name, the other, a title ...

I haven’t given birth to a child or a book C.J, but l gave birth to a PhD and that was fucking excruciating 🤣. When l walked across the stage to receive the honour from the Dean, he said ‘Congratulations’ and l replied, “l have two words for you, never again!’ He did laugh. I am proud of the achievement, however academia was too toxic a work environment for me. 🙃
