This morning, I got an email from a new author asking what’s the best way to market and sell her new poetry book. She said someone told her it’s next to impossible to sell poetry. (I would love to know who told her that ... they couldn’t have put much effort into it).
My answer is pretty much the same for writers and Authors of any type of book. ‘You’ll get out of something exactly what you put into it.’ The hard work isn’t done when your book is published. That’s when the true hard work begins!
I’m happy to share what I know and what worked for me.
The most important thing about marketing any book, (poetry included), is getting your name and the title of your book ‘out there’. It’s called ‘Personal Branding’ and it goes a long way to get people talking about you as an Author and what you do. Word of mouth is one of the best ways to sell books.
I’m going to ask a few questions, and give some information that I hope will help to get you started. Again: Your work isn’t done when your book is published. That’s when your work actually begins!
