During my summers in high school in the mid 60s, I was a lifeguard and a Red Cross swimming instructor at a lake on the outskirts of our town.
It was a beautiful lake. It had a nature trail all the way around it; a campground; picnic tables and grills for families; a net for volley ball; a baseball field; and what we teens loved for Saturday night dates every summer, a dance pavilion overlooking the lake.
At the time, I was dating my high school sweetheart, Doug, who in 1969 would become my husband. (Doug was to be an Army combat medic and KIA Vietnam, also in 1969).
