The Chocolate Pudding Fruit is Black Sapote
I’ve just discovered a Fruit that Tastes Like Chocolate Pudding: Black Sapote. It may just be the best fruit you’ve never heard of.
Once you open a ripe black sapote, you will see why it is called the “chocolate pudding fruit.” The deep rich brown smooth pulp with its creamy texture looks and acts like chocolate pudding.
“What does it taste like?” For those who have to know what something tastes like before they venture into unknown territory, it has a mildly sweet flavor and you can actually taste chocolate as well as subtle hints of coffee.
When it’s ripe, the fruit has about 4 times the amount of Vitamin C (191.7 mg) than an orange. In addition, it has significant amounts of Calcium (22 mg) and Phosphorus (23 mg).
Back-woods medicinal naturalists swear by it. They crush its bark and leaves and apply as a poultice to heal blisters, ringworm and all kinds of itchy skin conditions.
Now, let’s get back to the flavor ...
You are sure to impress the most wary of inexperienced tropical fruit consumers and friends by mixing skinned and seeded fruit into a smoothie, ice cream, pie, pastry filling, breads, or Black Sapote Cream Meringue Pie.
Add chocolate, rum, or a coffee flavored liqueur and you’ll have a unique creation that will look and taste rich and delicious.
Drizzle with agave nectar, honey, or cream and you’ll have a one-of-a-kind dinner party dessert treat.
For those with a more primitive taste, enjoy the fruit halved and eaten just as it is with a spoon.
Lastly, since it’s not overly sweet, mothers find it’s a perfect baby food because of its pudding-like texture and high vitamin content.
Babies love Black Sapotes!
