At this stage of my life as a senior citizen, I have gained an acceptance of not only “Who I Am’, but ‘Who I Am Not’. I embrace the difference, because in my 74 years, I have learned what lies between ‘Who I Am’ and ‘Who I Am Not’.
It comes down to many different Shades of Balance … .
No, we’re not as intelligent as some, but we are more intelligent than some.
No, we’re not as pretty as some, but we are more attractive than quite a few.
No, we’re not as rich as some, but we aren’t as poor as too many others are
No, we’re not as thin as we want to be, but we’re thinner than a lot of others.
No, we’re not as talented as some, but I’ll bet we’re more talented than quite a few.
No, we’re not as young as some, but we’ve lived a lot longer than many have.
No, we’re not as healthy as some, but we’re healthier than quite a few.
If you think about it, our life was never meant to be measured in superlatives, but in tiny increments of “Try & Fail”, “Almost There”, and “If the Shoe fits, Wear it.”
When we finally find the courage to trust in ourselves and let go of what others think of us, then we will feel the joy in being the unique person we were always meant to be.
Take all the time you need …

Thanks to the myth of "American Exceptionalism," most of us have bought into the belief that we have to be the tallest, the smartest, the strongest, the prettiest, the richest, the busiest (!?), the best dressed, most loved, most talented--or die trying. It's caused huge amounts of wasted time which translates into wasted LIFE. I wish everyone could read your Shades of Balance and rethink their values and how they prefer to live.
