Before I decided to retire, every morning my cat, Cleo, and I enjoyed a little ritual together.
When I got ready for work, I made sure the toilet lid was down, because Cleo loved to sit there and watch me put on my makeup. Every morning, without fail, we carried out this little ritual.
(You know where this is going, don’t you?)
One morning for some reason, I didn’t have the lid down. Maybe I was on the phone, I don’t know. What I do know is, the lid was up when Cleo did her usual jump.

Cats are fast, but I never knew a cat could move THAT fast!
Cleo hit that water and literally shot straight up in the air, hitting the ground again in the time it took me to blink.
She looked up, saw me staring, quickly shook herself, then turned and walked slowly away, the very tip of her tail the only thing that gave life to her embarrassment —nervously jerking left and right.
Otherwise, she was totally calm, head held high and strutting nonchalantly in the opposite direction, as if to say …
“I meant to do that.”
Knowing her, she was hell-bent on finding a quiet place to pout ...
