One of the most difficult things about being a poet is convincing our readers, family, and friends that we are not one-dimensional. Like a diamond, we have many facets, but we’re so much more.
We may write for children today, for adults tomorrow, with humor or with candor, but some of us also love to write with a seductive theme, as well. These are all little pieces of what make a poet unique.
I am a poet, but I’m always a woman and a lady first.
Poets feel life differently, almost as if they have one foot in the Now and the other, running from the mind and ego to the total Silence of Feelings and Truth and being One with the Universe. No one can tell a poet how to Be.
Poets feel life differently. I am a poet, but I’m a woman and a lady first.
Poets think in metaphors and imagery, personification and alliteration, rhyme, or no rhyme, but always with passion, abandon, and sometimes the gritty wit of sarcasm. Poets accept that they’re different and they allow and honor those differences. They wish those who matter most to them would, too.
Poets are different. I am a poet, but I am a woman first and …
I Am A Lady
by C.J. Heck
I am A Lady,
but I am so much more.
I am capable of
great insight and quiet wisdom,
undying devotion and love.
I am willing to give
more than receive
as long as it doesn't
become habit
and you take and take
and never offer
anything in return.
I am A Lady.
I am more than
a receptacle,
or a body
to be viewed
and screwed
at your leisure,
giving no thought
to what goes on
above my neck.
I'll not be
your window dressing,
nor your bobble-head doll
who nods in agreement
with everything
you say and do.
I am A Lady.
I've heard it said
that to kiss a man
when he wants to be kissed
is like scratching a place
that doesn't itch,
but I will guarantee
that I'll always have an itch
… and not just for kisses,
but only if I am loved
and the love is shared
with honesty and faithfulness.
Rest assured,
it will all be returned
to you ten-fold,
because, you see,
once the bedroom door
closes and the passion
rages in my blood,
I don't have to be
A Lady any more …

Love this poem C.J; a ‘l know who l am’ statement, stirs the feminist in me … and the sweet suggestion of lusciousness at the end makes this feminist smile.
