Colonel Sanders wasn't a grandfatherly figure in real life. He was a disbarred lawyer who could only get any other work by operating a restaurant, where the fried chicken came to be. Eventually, it became the worldwide chain it is now. Sanders remained the spokesman for the company even after he sold it, but he was a harsh critic of how they got his cooking wrong (he complained that the gravy they made was "goddamned slop") and ended up being as much of a liability as an asset to the organization.

Even his "Colonel" title wasn't genuine- it was an honorary title awarded by the state of Kentucky to distinguished residents and non-residents alike.

He came across as a grandfatherly type to me as a child in the ads and that’s what I was going by. In comparison, the newer ones were creepy.

I don’t think his private life has anything to do with my post, David. Thanks for the information.

He was a complicated person, anyway.

He sure was! With all of the negatives surrounding him, he still amassed a fortune, I’m sure.

Thanks again, David.

I missed you, too, Mitch. I hope everything is okay with you. Are you feeling okay?

I’m glad you enjoyed the ads from yesterday. I couldn’t help myself (laughing). They have just gotten too strange and with no morals.

hugs and peace

If you want a creepy perverted looking character used in commercials, look no further than the Burger King (mascot retired 2010, but has made appearances as late as 2020). Yikes, makes even my skin crawl !

*sigh. I worked in advertising. To start my first marketing class class at university- the professor said "We have one job in marketing--To create false need." My head popped up. false need? anyone, anyone? a lie? What? I turned my head to see if it shocked anyone else. I saw the entire class scribbling the notes and nodding. I could never look at it the same after that. I haven't had a TV for 13 years. . . I can see that the creepy factor has increased. Ick.

Hello Megan. Years ago, I was in radio advertising sales. I can honestly say I never used any of the tactics I see on TV these days —you’re right, they have gotten progressively icky, just to make a buck. It’s unnecessary and it’s shocking. I hope you’re enjoying your weekend!
