These are fantastic! My huge family - a mix of farmers and city folk - has a bunch also. Our late Uncle Abbie (1917-2000) always said "Things are tough all over!" then pause for a couple of seconds before adding in a softer voice "But things are never as tough as they seem." Those words have gotten teenagers thru old seniors thru many a "crisis."

I’m an old man, and I’ve got plenty of advice, but a person of the median age will have to be patient. None of it will do you any good for at least 30 years or however longer it takes to get over thinking that you are still the same person you ever were. But here’s one for all ages: A Smith & Wesson beats four aces, so make sure you’re playing the same game as your enemies.

Hello Richard. I hope you’re kidding about the Smith & Wesson ...

I’m old, too, and I’m happy to share what I’ve learned, if I’ve had experiences that might help someone.

No one ever stays the same person, if they do it right. We aren’t even the same person today that we were yesterday.

Life changes us.

Well, we just saw a political illustration of what comes of bringing a knife to a gunfight. I’m not advocating for armed card play, just counseling being on guard against it.

Well, we have this in common, a willingness civilly to engage with polar opposites without insisting on convincing the other. 📬

It is if I was guided by a bright Star . Perhaps Spica once more . Spica the blue star enveloped in the left hand of Virgo the Second largest Constellation in the sky…. What is “Old”? I like to think aged or vintage ! Most certainly wise from his years with much Wisdom. But so young at heart . Thank -you for sharing :)

These are brilliant. I especially like the one about plowing around the stump. That’s a comment my dad would have said. My favorite of his - “If you have to force it, you’re doing it wrong.”

Oh man! This reminds me of my dad although his were much different and maybe not so wise.

She has a figure like a burlap bag full of bobcats.

She steps off like a Clydesdale, Hackney bred. (His take on a woman in our hometown who was quite large but incredibly graceful. 😂)

An east wind is cold no matter which direction it blows.

She drives like a mad bull! Always running for the fences. (On driving an overloaded truck.)

Wouldn't that just frost you?

And my mom...there's been a lot of water under the bridge since then.

Thank you for the trip down memory lane!

Happy New Year, sweet Cesca! Thank you for your concern —I’m fine. It’s hard to believe it’s been 25 years since the entire world sweat out the coming millenium and the end of the Mayan calendar. This ol’ planet will go on and on and on.

much love
