These are fantastic! My huge family - a mix of farmers and city folk - has a bunch also. Our late Uncle Abbie (1917-2000) always said "Things are tough all over!" then pause for a couple of seconds before adding in a softer voice "But things are never as tough as they seem." Those words have gotten teenagers thru old seniors thru many a "crisis."

"Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you". I went mono e mono with full grown raccoon in our chicken cage when I was much younger. I escaped within out injury.

These are brilliant. I especially like the one about plowing around the stump. That’s a comment my dad would have said. My favorite of his - “If you have to force it, you’re doing it wrong.”

I love those, too, and you dad’s would fit in nicely, as well.

Thank you for sharing, Janelle.

I think we all have at one time or another, Elizabeth. Please don’t beat yourself up over it, ok? We’re human and we goof up sometimes.

Oh man! This reminds me of my dad although his were much different and maybe not so wise.

She has a figure like a burlap bag full of bobcats.

She steps off like a Clydesdale, Hackney bred. (His take on a woman in our hometown who was quite large but incredibly graceful. 😂)

An east wind is cold no matter which direction it blows.

She drives like a mad bull! Always running for the fences. (On driving an overloaded truck.)

Wouldn't that just frost you?

And my mom...there's been a lot of water under the bridge since then.

Thank you for the trip down memory lane!

Happy New Year, sweet Cesca! Thank you for your concern —I’m fine. It’s hard to believe it’s been 25 years since the entire world sweat out the coming millenium and the end of the Mayan calendar. This ol’ planet will go on and on and on.

much love

This gave me a badly needed chuckle. My only objection is to place skunks on the same level as bankers. This is unfair to the skunks. One beautiful skunk used to visit my yard regularly. She was no trouble at all.

Hello Perry! I’m glad I could be the one to give you a chuckle. As to the skunks and bankers, I agree. My ex was a banker … now, I thank YOU for the chuckle!
