I love writing poetry. I especially love writing poetry about a time, a place, or a person that touched my heart in some way a long time ago.
Sometimes, the poem is so close to being true, it’s almost autobiographical. Sometimes the poem is full of wishful thinking and there isn’t a thread of truth on any line.
My challenge when I write a poem is to touch your heart and allow you to feel that it really could have happened …
I Remember Then by C.J. Heck I remember many things about those days and you. I remember looking into deepest eyes and staring, like I couldn't get deep enough, then burning the love I saw there into a memory to keep for all time. I remember how total silence could be so comfortable and how it was the first time in my life I ever felt that to be so. I remember how safe I felt with you. Even how you said my name was different, and thinking, even my name is safe in your mouth the way you say it. I remember how sometimes we made love all night, and stayed in bed all day, then skinny dipped to cool the places our loving heated up. I remember lying in your arms in the afterglow, thinking how profound, the way the brain hitches a ride when the body does all the work. You were my miracle in our own short season and I still remember the last time I saw you. I will never forget the sadness that was there in your eyes.

Ooh! I feel this one in my bones. You turn feelings into ink and breath into longing. The emotions ache and claw to be set free. Keep them coming. 🙏❤️
C.J., the diction in your poem manages to be both rich and austere.
