I agree, Lexie. For the interested, if poetry is written with words they can understand, they will read. Otherwise, like with everything else in our society if it takes too much work, people will tend to toss it aside.
I get funny looks when I tell people “there’s a poem for that” or “you should read this one.” Even my daughter rolls her eyes. I really don’t care any more—poetry is like art, but you’re painting with words and feelings. Not everyone gets art, or if they do, they all have preferences. I’m just happy if a couple of people enjoy what I wrote!
I’m sure a lot of people enjoy what you write, Carole! I know I do (smiling). Poetry is very subjective. If they’ll only read it, they can each take away a whole different meaning, something that resonates with them personally.
How old is your daughter, Carole? My three are 47, 49, and 51. I comped each of them lifetime memberships to my substacks, something you might consider with your daughter if she’s old enough.
My daughters are learning things they didn’t know about our family and how Mom thinks through reading my posts every day.
What’s the ‘point’ of writing poetry? “Well, Ma’am (or Sir), it comes down to money. I can only afford to pay for 500 words a month, so I can’t write anything but poetry. Lucky is the writer who can afford more!”
I suppose because in life it gets so tangled. Sometimes the only way to work out tangles is by paying attention and working through the knots until it is less chaotic and more easily manageable. Some people do this better than others. Some people wear their hair short so they don't ever have to think about it at all.
Writing poetry is like finding a knot in life and untangling it with well-chosen words.
I like to look at poetry from the same perspective as Jesus spoke in parables. For those that are interested will work it out.

Good point, but then to be in the world but not of it. Thank goodness we still have that choice.
We do. Namaste.
yes the poetic sneeze is totally relatable!
Yes, I thought it would be for you, Elizabeth! ❤️❤️

"These remain still at the root of my poetry -
The reeds in the bog; summer coming ln
clouds of white daisies to the sloping fields
at the back of the house; And the "hill of Ben" ........
By Irish Poet Michael Walsh 1897 to 1938

Oh, l love poetry C.J … 💜, the poet writes from their observation, the reader brings themselves to it … so few words, so many interpretations ✍🏻💜🙏
That’s exactly right! A poem can mean many things to many people. Did you have a good day, Simone?
🎄🎄🤶🎅🎄🎄
Good morning C.J, yes, l did have a good day … pottering about getting ready for Xmas. Hope your day is going well? 🧚😊

Oh, and someone once asked me what was the point of writing poetry 😂

(snicker, giggle, snort)
What's the point of combing your hair?

Wow, Julia, I've never read an explanation as interesting! I guess you could say we're knotty ladies and we enjoy being that way! (giggle-snort)
Knotty ladies.
Love it.
💞😁
Now I have the poetry bug I feel all weird if I don’t write one every day. It’s like my medicine!
