You describe perfectly the sights and sounds of leaving the ship in St Thomas. Brings back a good memory of good times.

A precious glass jewel not jaded in any way that hangs around a neck a good choice to leave for sea grape trees ripe fruit picked by flowery flowing dresses with wrapped scarves around their heads.

Your story takes me to st croix it seems yesterday a flight away from gloomy NY daze but I didn’t stay. My youth got in the way; had to return to school to recover from rum soaked shorts and sandals torn to ponder a woman’s grace who left me high and dry with a memory manifold that roars down the street Hollywood mufflers on my ears quiet in my old nights now accepting my choice .

And your tale took me to a place I had almost forgotten. Words are wonderful when placed next to each other.

Indeed they are, Richard, but only true wordsmiths can find the way to the heart as you so aptly did. Kudos, Sir.

Wordsmith like blacksmith? Forge foreign forms into a song or sigh’s that one could fit into and feel comfortable?

Wordsmith is a skilled creator with words. They skillfully weave the beauty of words into the diaphanous, never to be forgotten sighs of the heart.

You know this sort of sounds like my situation! I was in Germany with my ex who was in the army and things weren't going very well over there, And we couldn't afford to live there, so he decided to send me back home! And I filed for a divorce! But almost a year later, I went back with him to Texas! But things just didn't work out! Things seemed fine in Texas but when we came back to Pa., we moved in with my elderly, ill mom and my brother and his family lived next door, so you can imagine the problems we faced! Well, to make a long story shorter, he moved out one month before our son was born! But that's not the end! There's more to the story but I'll save the rest for another time!

It looks like you sure brought out a lot of buried memories with this one, C.J. I was hoping it was a true story and when you told Connie "she was truly an inspiration", I had my answer. Are those pictures of the actual jewelry you bought? They are beautiful.

Her jewelry was very expensive, Connie, and I didn’t buy any. I found these photos on Google images by searching “sea glass jewelry”. They’re very similar to the pieces she had though.

The way she left her husband was very inspiring. He was a jerk to do that to her and she just walked away to a better, happier life —it gave me goosebumps!
