I was part of a home delivery project in San Francisco. I did rhe photodocumentation. Fortunstely I never eitnessed anything like what you described. However, I do remember s woman who was only doing it to please her husband, who seemed a bit of a jerk. In her forteth hour of labor she insisted on going to the hospital. She delivered within minutes of arriving. I alwaysvfet that the advising doctor at the couple's home should have overruled them, especially the husband, and dent the young woman to SF General.

Sounds like an interesting job you had, although I doubt the project lasted much longer. As an added thought, I lived for a short while in San Francisco. What a fantastic city! The cable cars and Ghirardelli Square, the wharf ... So much character to it!!

I did it for about 1.5 years. Money wasn't an issue, since I donated my time, equipment and materials.

Yes, Frisco and California were both lovely, but I didn't like my time there, and was glad to be gone. I never returned to the Bay Area, except as a stopover for Hawaii.

I couldn't subscribe to the romance, the myth of San Francisco. I was perhaps to aware of rapes, violence, racial tensions, drug overdoses, etc.

I did enjoy the little coastal deer and the Sespe Condor Sanctuary outside of Ojai. And then there sere a couple sweet ladies who still occupy a place in my heart, but not enough to mske me regret leaving. I had a wanderlust which I have never gotten over.

I was there in the early 70s, the hippies were still everywhere and that probably added to the mystique surrounding my memories of living there. After I left San Francisco, I've lived mostly on the east coast. ever since Go figure ... 🤍
