You know, I thought it was just me and my miserable self. To many things seem to have become “just another day”. I keep thinking it’s just age. I keep wondering if it’s so many people being gone and so many of the old traditions departing with them. The commercialization seems to have been there for quite awhile, but when Christmas decorations and merchandise find their way into stores in October, well that sums that up. And perhaps most sadly, people (society) in general, well, they’ve become outright cruel, mean and nasty. Hard to be festive with so many around like that.
Dave said it correct above. “Just growing into a new view of life”.
I think you could write a book on all of it. You probably hit it on the head and have the right idea on what your focus will be this time around.
Maybe just maybe I should be trying to find something this year that makes it seem a little bit more worthwhile and in the spirit of what the holiday is suppose to mean. If it happens, you’ll be the first to know.
I see so much truth in what you and David said in your comments. I think we all agree, Christmas should be far less commercialized and less early. How else will it keep the magic, the wonder, and excitement we remember as children alive for our children and grandchildren? They’re being cheated as things are now. There’s no build up of excitement and it’s becoming a Ho Hum holiday, “No big deal” or worse yet, “So what?”
I loved reading this. I agree with the overwhelming it can bring. Getting it just right. It shouldn’t be work. Christmas of old just unfolded or maybe that because I was not a mother and head cook and bottle washer.
The Boondocks animated series also had an episode in which the intellectual Huey Freeman schools his granddad on Christmas' roots & puts his own vision on the elementary school Christmas pageant, Riley has it in for a mall Santa & a neighbor kid has a Santa - centric version of Christmas. It's funny & has a looney CHARM to it. I try to catch it in streaming via Youtube just because.
My pleasure. So many people have a love / hate attitude about Christmas. I'd like to see a movie about U. S. or Canadian Thanksgiving, I don't think that there are any as such. 🦃
I agree with your sentiment wholeheartedly but I don't think it's possible to overdo any of our Christmas traditions. When we're in that part of our lives we need to just dig in and enjoy the madness knowing it won't always be there. These days I miss it. I wish I had a gift list to achieve. I wish we could spend time with our family on the left coast. I wish our kids were still little and that we had more friends our own age. Don't get me wrong, I'm not unhappy or in need of counseling, I'm just growing into a new view of life. We get to a point where we outrun the demands of Christmas and are left wrestling with the happy memories of holiday hassles. That's how life works and that, too, is part of the "true meaning of Christmas".

Unacceptable …
Totally agree ! And yes, we’re all on the same page.

Thank you, Valerie. You’re right, it can be ‘over’-whelming. It would be nice to go back to Christmases of old …
You’re right, C.J. I adore Christmas but not the over focus on consuming more. This is a great reminder to keep the true spirit alive!
Thank you, Trudi. I’m happy you agree!
😊❤️💕💞
I am also looking into how one can spend Christmas 🎄 this season. Favorite Christmas movie is Home Alone.
Thank you, Precious

Thank you for restacking my post, Daniel!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie about Thanksgiving. If you find one, please post about it, okay?
😮

Try to at least fit in a Carol Service to remind us what Christmas is all about.
Yes, that’s very important, since that’s what Christmas is all about. Thank you Mary Angela.
Thank you, too, for restacking my poem.
Thank you.
