I’d go fortune. And with it would be something in a will or legal whatever that anything left, should I meet my demise, would go to either Shriners Hospital for Children or St Jude research. Nowadays, you can keep the fame.
I tutored a young Vietnamese ESL student for 2 years via Skype. It was rewarding and very healing, since my first husband, a combat medic, was killed there in 1969.
Good morning-afternoon C.J 🤗. Definitely fortune, for all the reasons you give - some things just need money such as further research work into neurological and other diseases the medical field know little of, such as MND. Culturally and linguistically diverse communities are so often the refugee communities in Australia need more money to adequately fund the resources they need to have an equal footing in our society. These are the 2 main arenas l would support with a fortune, followed by Amnesty International. Fame, not for me, l am an introvert and with fame, l imagine there would be a perilous gateway into ego land. I worked in ego land once, otherwise known as university and had to leave because l couldn’t bear the expectation to compete for grants and intellectual kudos - their version of fame. Must be morning coffee time ☕️🤣❤️
Good whatever, Simone. I like all your reasons why a fortune would work best for you. We will probably never realize having a fortune, but it’s sure fun to plan for it, isn’t it?
How is your ankle? You are in my thoughts to heal fast!
Yes, it is a bit of fun planning how to be a philanthropist 👍. My ankle is slowly getting there … l can hobble though it is still sore and swollen. Nice and easy 💜
It takes up so much time and gets in the way of your real work. Ego-worship always does.
You're right about having the choice though. That much I'll admit. To turn something down like that gives one a real sense of power. And you end up pitying all the fools who are taken in by it. But you see whatever way you're presented will always be a lie. And as a poet my one concern is with the truth. That's enough. Everything else is a distraction.
I almost agree, John, but I do respect your viewpoint.
As a writer, I’m also concerned with the truth, but if this choice were real and I actually could choose one or the other, why would it be a lie, IF it was an actual and true choice?
In my life, worrying about having enough income to pay bills is the distraction. A full bank account that’s helping the less fortunate and supporting me as a writer would be no distraction —not at all. It would free me to be a more prolific, more caring and even a more understanding writer.
We can’t look at every situation with blinders on, John. What may be ridiculous to you could be a Godsend to someone else.

That’s a great add on, Ken. You’re a good man. Now, all we have to do is get our fortune so we can put things in motion …
The fortune is a good choice because with it, you can put the fortune to good work...helping others less fortunate.
Exactly my thoughts, Frederick. Oh the things I could do to help if I had the means. It’s always been so frustrating, with only my empty pockets.
Thank you for your comment!
You could volunteer at a shelter, soup kitchen, or tutor ESL, to name a few.

CJ, I would also choose fortune, but if the sign in your pic read 'real cool waterlillies' I might go that way
D
Dave, what a flirt you are! 💋
I've been presented with all that. But turned it down. It's overrated.
If you turned it down, how can you say it’s over-rated? I still would like to have the choice.

I could have been a famous queer. But I hate homosexuality. And it would have been a devil of a job to convince people otherwise.
You see the truth is very subtle. And most people find subtlety difficult.
I was prepared to go to prison to write. Is prison expensive?
Whatever, John, whatever. This comment is too cryptic to understand …
